Every temple has to be carried out the annual festival for the well being of the residents of that particular village. During this festival time diverse rituals associated with the Temple has to be performed. The errors occurred during the past one year has to be Resolved. So the atonement procedures have to be performed for the prosperity and happiness of the villagers. The yearly radhotsava festival commence on the month of Medam on the star atham and wind up on the tiruvonam day.
The ten day festival will initiate with the kodiyettam at the midnight of The propitious day .Ahead of kodiyattam a certain ritual called as annarakettu will perform to dispel the departed spirits which crave for the liberation from the earth. Subsequently from the Brahmamuhurtha itself many oblations to the god will take place Including the kalababhisheka ,seeveli,uchapooja etc by the scholarly priests. Following This rituals the maha deeparadhana will take place and the prasadams will be distributed. Afterwards the temple will be closed up to evening. Once the temple opens at late afternoon a range of poojas will be performed.with deeparadhana. Then the procession of the lord through the village on the chariot named Gorata will go on .Every day the vahanas which hold the lord will be varied. The prominent among the vahanas is Anavahana and on that day unique poojas will be performed with pomp and boisterous celebrations. After the procession throughout the village there will be a number of cultural activities and discourses at the premises of the temple.
On the penultimate day evening two big chariots embellished with fragrant flowers, coconut leaf, festoons and triumphal arch will scurry all the way through the village which is Pulled by numerous devotees with dedication, cheer, applaud. And devotion . The giant Chariot is reckoned as foremost in the district in respect of its vastness and configuration. Before this in the morning hours both the chariots will be pulled to a particular distance with lord and the poojas will be performed with vedic rituals on the chariots. That day Both the chariots will reside at the grounds in the vicinity of lord mahaganaprthy. On the next day the chariots will again return to the abode of lord varadarajaperumal. With enthusiasm and passion. After entering the temple premises of the varadaraja perumal the deity will be alighted from the chariot with vedic hymns and traditional ceremonies accompanied with the nadaswaram and spectacular display of fireworks. Then the customary rituals and pujas will be performed prior to the deeparadhana. Then manjal neeratu a traditional custom with the Procession of lord will take place.The vettum kuthira and the chakkakallan are also an indivisible element of this festival. The final ceremony is pallaku kachery which will be presented by eminent artists in this sphere. After the conclusion of this the dwajavarohanam will be carried out with religious rites.
